18.2 and 18.2a!

As noted in the announcement this was a burner! I also really struggled with whether to try this Rx or not. I could have done the movements as written. Ultimately, I did it scaled and that was a good decision. I barely made it into 18.2a and would not have had I done it Rx. What was this 18.2 CrossFit Open workout?

In 12 minutes complete the following:

1 dumbbell squat (2 35# dumbbells)

1 barfacing burbee

2 of each

3 of each

4 of each

5 of each

6

7

8

9

10 of each…

Then with any time remaining get to a 1RM Clean – this is 18.2a.

The first 5 rounds moved along pretty quickly l, but after that things started to slowly fall apart. The burpees got really hard, if you need help with the math there were 55 of each movement and round 8 is when you hit the halfway mark on the reps. I started out doing strict burpees but started doing more stepbacks or stepovers in rounds 6 and 7. I finished the last round with less than a minute and was able to squeeze in 3 cleans in that time finishing with 120 on the bar. That last minute was intense with loading the bar and cleaning it.

18.1 = Done.

My first CrossFit Open workout is complete. The Open is the annual chance for anyone around the world to compete against themselves and each other on some really hard workouts!

18.1 is the first of 5 workouts. You can find more info about 18.1 here.

I was able to complete it scaled as written:

20 Minute AMRAP:

8 Hanging Knee Raises

10 Dumbbell Hang Clean and Jerk (5 on each side) 35#

14 Calorie Row

I was able to complete 290 reps or 9 rounds plus 2 reps. The dumbbell was definitely the hardest part for me.

Today was another CrossFit Open workout… 17.4 standards and analysis. This was also 16.4 for those keeping track. Only 5% completed a full round!

I did the scaled version of the 13 minute AMRAP.

55 Deadlift 135#

55 Wallball 14#

55 Cal Row

55 Pushups

I got off the rower with just less than a minute left and was able to bang out 10 Pushups on a box. I should have just done 1 or 2 from the floor to maintain a scaled as written workout. Oh well.

That was a hard chipper!

Today was a doozy and a bit complicated.

We did 16.2 which is the second workout from the 2016 CrossFit Open. As written it is a little complicated to explain. So here is what I did:

In 16 minutes I completed one round and 78 reps. The round:

25 hanging knee raises

50 single unders

15 squat cleans at 65lbs.

The 78 reps were

25 hanging knee raises

50 single unders

3 squat cleans at 85lbs.

The squat cleans were brutal and the scaled weight was supposed to start at 95 and go up 20lbs each round for 5 rounds. The Rx weight started at 135 for 15 reps and ended with 7 reps at 315. More details about the workout can be found here.

The average athlete completed the first round but not the second. Beyond the Whiteboard has some interesting analysis here.
