04222018 – Bike

Our first really gorgeous day! As a family we went for a walk/kids biking in the early afternoon.  When we got back I went out for a ride.  I wore my Northwoods Racing Kit from Twin Six and enjoyed being able to wear shorts and a short sleeve jersey! I brought arm warmers just in case, but never needed them. It was around 60 with a little wind.  The paved trails were snow free, but still with water a lot of places.

I took the North Cedar Lake Trail and connected to the Minnetonka Regional Trail by taking the cut through in Hopkins on 2nd. The Minnetonka Trail is all “aggregate” and it had patches that were still super wet and muddy and others that appeared all dried out.  I only did like 2 miles out and then back on it as I didn’t have time for the longer rides that go out that way. Then I connected back onto the Cedar Lake LRT Trail/Midtown Greenway.  This had  a nice tail wind and I connected into 2 different riders who were pushing hard.  I wasn’t able to hang for long but it was nice to get some miles at a much harder pace. I hit 25 mph in this section without any real hill. Then I rode the Hiawatha LRT trail downtown and rode along West River Road and back home.  It was a nice route that has some great sections for hard riding.

Overall 28.8 miles in 2:00:00. I had 22 “achievements” on Strava so that’s pretty sweet!

A cold ride around some lakes this morning. It was supposedly 17 degrees, but I wasn’t wearing enough clothes. Really it was just my fingers and toes that got the worst of it, but by the end I was feeling it!

18 miles in 1:27.

Rode by some crabby people who gave me the stink eye for riding on the bike path. The walking paths are still covered in snow. Another guy yelled at me for not announcing myself when I passed him, even though I yelled 5 times and his walking partner heard me and told him to move. But overall a nice ride!

45 unexciting minutes on the trainer followed by some kettlebell deadlifts, lunges and stretching. All of that before making waffles and heading to church to celebrate Easter. No joke!

Most of the snow from yesterday melted, but no reason to risk it. Any of the shaded areas still have snow and I don’t think the Parks plowed so I’m sure it’s a little messy out there. And we are getting more this week.

03182018 – Bike Trainer and Climbing

I woke up and did 36 minutes on the Bike Trainer in the morning and some stretching afterwards.  I watched a few TED Talks and just ended the ride after the 3rd one.  At least for now it is mostly just easy spinning to get the blood pumping.  At some point I’ll need to be getting in some longer rides.

In the afternoon we went to the Minneapolis Bouldering Project and I climbed some routes and played with the kids.  We usually just push around some medicine balls and play with some of the lightweights.  They have 2.5# dumbbells and some similar weighted kettlebells.  This week we tried out the battle ropes and lifting the medicine balls like atlas stones.  Check out my son’s strongman lifting on my Instagram!  I also did some pull-up work while we were there.

03052018 – Bike Trainer

We got a snow day today! Hard to believe. I hit the bike trainer this morning while the kids played upstairs!

I did 45 minutes on the trainer while catching up on some TED videos. Then I did some stretching before a short 21-15-9 with my 53# kettlebell. Russian Swings and deadlifts. I finished the short workout in 3:13.
