Day 43

Most of my walks have included walking Daisy with me. Except on some of the really bitter cold days. This week has been really cold again with lows below zero (though no where close to canceling school). These make for long days at work because the windchill has been below zero which means indoor recess. For several days in a row.

But I digress. It has been interesting to me to see how while walking with Daisy how our pace varies not only within the walk but also from day to day. And I guess from route to route. Some days require more bathroom breaks and some have more intriguing smells!

Sometimes the weight I’m carrying impacts the pace too. I’ve been varying from bodyweight, 12# vest to 20# backpack over the last few weeks. I’ve not paid close attention to how the weight impacts my pace. I just know it has.

Day 40

Today actually ended up being busy and Street Parking through out a rucking challenge so that kind of shifted my plans.

I waited until the temp was above 0f and then did a 2.5 mile ruck with a 20# pack. It was the Street Parking Super Pup Ruck! So I took Daisy too!

Then in the afternoon I went to V3 for some lifting (did the 5/3/1 bench press) and then tried swimming for the first time post-concussion. I ended up doing 400m total, but it was 1 length at a time. And I only did a few of those as front crawl. I think it went okay. So I’ll try to get back again sooner than later to see!  I think my chest might be sore though!

Day 27

I actually finished reading Tribe yesterday but forgot while I was writing my post. As I mentioned in the Day 23 post, it was part of Go Ruck’s boom club.

Overall, I liked the premise of the book, we all do better when we are connected to people around us and feel some shared goals/outcomes. He gave examples of how Western society looks down on more communal cultures, but how historically when given the chance people would prefer living in the communal “tribes”.

He gave several examples and a few times while reading I got bogged down in the examples and forgot the main point of the book/chapter.

It is a relatively easy read. And is actually timely as our communities and country are being fractured. We may be building groups of like-minded people, but ultimately the collective group of the USA is becoming more divisive which runs counter to a productive society.

Day 26

After dropping off family at the airport I wore my 12# vest and hiked Pike Island at Fort Snelling State Park. It had been awhile since I’ve been there. There is basically no snow, but the rivers are frozen. It was a nice 4 mile walk!

Here’s the frozen confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers!

Day 25

One third complete!

I did a Street Parking workout in the morning. Then we did other things and was out in the cold checking out the Art Shanty Project. It was tempting to just come home and relax into the couch. But I went out with 20# pack and did this week’s Tribe ‘N Training Ruck workout. My legs said I’ve done too much squatting! But it was a good extra challenge.
