Day 48

We are in the depths of a deep freeze again,  but the sun is bright which made the afternoon walk not quite as bad.

I went to V3 again this morning since there was no school! It’s felt good to use some barbell instead of just my dumbbells at home.

Yesterday I forgot to say I finished another nonfiction book. Chasing Excellence by Ben Bergeron. Another CrossFit adjacent book but this one was all about mindset as Ben is big on character development of his athletes.

This book highlights Mat Fraser, Katrin Davisdotter, and Cole Sager from 2015 which is the same year discussed in Mat’s book. I enjoyed the stories but also the traits that Ben shared.

Day 47

I did some of the TriDot Assessments today.

The Bike assessment is a warm up then 15 miles as fast as possible. Today was 29:06, which is a 3 minute improvement from January’s assessment.

This afternoon I did a 5k walk, the actual assessment is a run. But I’m still not able to run. I was surprised that I dropped 2 minutes off the walk. Some of the sidewalks and stuff was messy from the recent snow, but it didn’t seem to slow me down. My time today was 51:40.

Day 46

It was a beautiful day for an afternoon ski! But in the morning I went to V3 again and did the Bench 5/3/1 workout and did some swimming. I brought my swim snorkel and did a few lengths without needing to do any side breaths. Not sure if that made a difference or not.

Day 45

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I went skiing right after work so I wouldn’t have to worry about doing anything later. It was snowing the entire time and we’d already had a few inches of fresh powder! So the skiing was slow. But I ran into an old neighbor and we skiied and caught up a bit.

I had hoped to leave work early and then I ended up leaving late. But again the choices had already been made. And fortunately we didn’t have any specific plans for the evening so I didn’t have time constraints.

Day 44

I had to make a choice today. I did my morning workout as usual. I had an evening work event and like 90 minutes between work and the event. I didn’t want to shorten my already limited family time. So I didn’t do my second workout then. I got home a little after 8pm and again chose to spend time with my family. It was after 9 when I had the opportunity to exercise. 9pm is usually when I start winding down.

So the question was do I go outside for 45 minutes and get to bed really late, or quit 75 Hard. It was a harder choice than I expected. Sleep seemed really good, but the idea of just quitting didn’t sit right either.

So I went out into the cold dark and walked for 45 minutes.  And kept the challenge alive! These choices aren’t really choices if you’ve already made the choice!
