Overall a pretty good week of training. It almost looks like a step back week after hitting a ton of bike mileage the week before, but really I only missed one extra day of training. I just wasn’t teaching a bike class so wasn’t riding during the day! The summer program ended on Friday so I’m sure some of my bike mileage will continue to fall.
I had a nice swim, completing 1200 yards without stopping. One of the kids that I know from the summer program kept trying to talk to me at the turns. Every now and then I’d say a few words and then continue on my way! I felt really comfortable through 800 which is a good sign for the triathlon!
On Sunday I did a long brick workout. I rode 22 miles on the bike and finished with 4.5 mile run. I started feeling pretty tired by the end but managed to maintain an 8:20 pace on the run. I couldn’t decide where to go on the bike, I didn’t want to do the same exact course as last week, so I opted to head to Fort Snelling and go around the airport. I saw quite a few deer and a turkey while in Fort Snelling and there was a lot of wind on the otherwise great roads to ride on around the airport. The last several miles were pretty much all on streets so there was a lot more stopping or slowing down at the end. I felt pretty happy with how my legs adjusted off the bike!
I turned 30 this past week, exciting I know!! Now I’ll be competing in a new age division! To celebrate I spent 3 hours at a board meeting talking about our strategic plan. It actually was a very good meeting, but not the ideal way to spend your birthday!!
