Race Results Roundup 6-23-07

An excellent weekend to race weather-wise! I know I enjoyed it and almost 1,000 others did as well!

Columbus’ Firecracker 5K was won by 19 year-old Nick Arensmann in 16:50 (5:25). Lynn Marsh, 24, won the women’s division in 19:44 (6:21).  Russel Fox won the walk in 33:38 and Jenny Rumph won the women’s division in 40:05.  I’ve seen Russel in action, he’s quite impressive!

Fisher’s Freedom Festival 5K had 516 runners and 79 walkers.  Chris Swisher, 24, of Fishers won in 15:00 (4:51), beating out a tough top 15, including Kyle Carey of Pendleton, Gary Romesser of Eagle Creek, and a wide range of high schoolers.  The top female, Steph Dueriger, was actually 11th overall with a time of 17:08 (5:32). Twelve-year old Patrick Montgomery won the 5K walk in a time of 33:14.  He was walking with fellow twelve-year old Brook Byrd who finished in 34:56.  Both are from Fishers. (Did they run part of it??)

Buzzards Roost 10K with just under 100 participants had an excellent field.  Mark Diveley finished in 35:59 (5:49) Another tough front pack, 5th place was still under 39 minutes.  First place female Rachel Young, ran 40:45 (6:35).  This race attracted high school runners from Alexandria, Noblesville, and Hamilton Heights.

This weekend was also the USATF meet in Indy.  There were some impressive times coming from the meet. This included meet records falling in the 100m and 200m dash, and the 1500 with Alan Webb running a 3:34 (about a 3:50 mile). To make a comparison from this weekend’s results at the USATF meet:

  • Bernard Lagat won the 5K in 13:30 (4:20)
  • Shalane Flanagon won the women’s 5K in 14:51 (4:46)
  • Swisher’s 15min 5K would not have competed in the men’s and would have earned him 2nd in the women’s division.
  • Abdu Abdiraham won the 10K in 28:13 (4:32)
  • Deena Kastor won the women’s 10K in 31:57 (5:08)
  • Diveley’s 10K finish (35:59) would not have competed in the men’s nor the women’s.

They are flying!!
